מבדק Assessing Basic Literacy in English) ABLE) מספק למורים אמצעי לזיהוי תלמידים עם קשיים ברכישת הקריאה ומסייע באיתור מקורות אפשריים לקשיים הללו. המבדק מועבר בראשית שנת הלימודים של כיתה ה' וכולל שני שלבים: מבדק כיתתי - המועבר כמבדק מסנן, ומבדק פרטני המועבר לתלמידים שנמצאו מתקשים.

את המבדק מומלץ להעביר לתלמידים בכיתות ה' במהלך חודש אוקטובר, בהתאם להנחיות במדריך למורה. אפשר להעבירו לתלמידים בסיום כיתה ד', אם המורה צפויה להמשיך עם אותם התלמידים גם בשנת הלימודים הבאה.

החל משנת תשפ"ב המבדק יועבר באופן מתוקשב בסביבת המודל (moodle). פרטים אודות אופן פתיחת מרחב הלמידה ואופן העברת המבדק לתלמידים מפורטים בהמשך הדף.

למבדק יש גרסה בעברית ובערבית. ההבדל בין הגרסאות הוא בשפה בה כתובות ההוראות בלבד. בנוסף, ישנה גרסה המיועדת למגזר החרדי. לפרטים אודותיה יש לפנות לפיקוח על השפה האנגלית.The ABLE kit is designed to provide classroom teachers with a reliable, evidence based assessment tool that will enable them to identify readers with reading difficulties as well as the specific basic literacy skills that may be the source of that difficulty. The ABLE kit is comprised of two tools: a Screening Tool, to be administered to the whole class and a Diagnostic Tool to be administered individually.As of 2021-2022, the assessment is in the elementary level of the Ministry of Education's Moodle environment. Details on how to open the learning space and how to transfer the assessment to students are explained in a file at the bottom of this page.The ABLE kit has a version in Hebrew and Arabic. The difference between the versions is only in the language in which the instructions are written.In addition, there is a version intended for the 'Haredi' sector.
